Travel Advisories http://www.travel.state.gov/ WHTI -The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative is a result of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA), requiring all travelers to present a passport or other document that denotes identity and citizenship when entering the U.S.The goal of the initiative is to strengthen U.S. border security while facilitating entry for U.S. citizens and legitimate foreign visitors by providing standardized documentation that enables the Department of Homeland Security to quickly and reliably identify a traveler.
Travel Tips 1. Have proper travel documentation. 2. Check www.faa.gov regarding any updated security regulations. 3. Check on your flight before leaving home. 4. Be at the airport at recommended time. (Usually 2 hours before take off) 5. Luggage weight (50lbs) 6. Know the airline luggage limits (these are changing). Check with your air line. 7. Keep luggage keys easily accessible. 8. Label luggage. (inside and out) 9. Have a carry on with at least one days clothing and a bathing suit (if need at your destination). 10. Don’t be shy! Speak up anytime something does not seem right. 11. When traveling to other countries, remember their culture may impact on your travel expectations. Still speak up! 12. Requests for specific rooms may not be paid attention to once you check into the hotel. Know what you asked for and speak up! i.e. non-smoking, ocean view, king bed, etc 13. When checking in find out about any special restaurants, where and when to sign up for reservations. Ask how many times you can go during your stay and if there is any extra charge for these restaurants. 14. Men bring long pants, not jeans, so you can go to the dining rooms/ restaurants. 15. Once you travel you are on your own. Be prepared with emergency numbers easily at hand. Insurance, supplier’s emergency number, etc. 16. Make copies of your documents, passport, driver’s license, credit cards and health insurance. Have them with you, separate from the originals. 17. If you have purchased travel insurance, keep a copy of documents (anything you paid for: air, hotel, etc.) at home. 18. Notify you credit card company that you will be leaving the country, where and when you are going and returning. 19. Utilize the room safe.
